About this service
Who actually does the packing?
Independent third-party packing and unpacking providers who serve the West Valley. We pass your request to them; they contact you, quote and do the work.
Is requesting a quote free?
Yes, with no obligation. We may be compensated by providers for referrals; that doesn’t change what you pay the provider.
Do you guarantee the provider’s work or price?
No. Providers set their own prices and terms and are responsible for their own work, licensing and insurance.
How is my information used?
It’s shared with independent providers so they can contact you about your request. See our privacy policy.
Prices and estimates
How much does packing cost in Phoenix?
Most providers charge by the hour per packer, plus materials. See packing costs for rough planning ranges — not quotes.
Why do most providers charge hourly?
Because how full a home is — not its size — decides how long it takes, and that’s hard to judge from a floor plan. Ask for a written range based on a walkthrough.
Is an estimate binding?
That depends on the provider. Ask directly whether the range is binding and what happens if the job runs over, and get the answer in writing.
Do providers take a deposit?
Some do, some don’t. Ask about deposit, rescheduling and cancellation terms.
Are boxes and materials included?
Sometimes. Ask whether cartons, dish packs, wardrobe boxes, paper and tape are in the rate or billed separately.
Are there extra fees for weekends or short notice?
Some providers charge rush or after-hours premiums. Ask before you book.
Booking and the day itself
How far ahead should I request quotes?
February to May, five to six weeks. September to November, four to five. Winter, two to four. Summer often has more availability.
How long does packing a house take?
For many homes up to three bedrooms, a professional crew can often finish in a day. Very full homes, large garages and two-storey layouts may need two days.
Should packing be the day before the movers?
Usually, yes. Packing and loading on the same day can create a bottleneck. Pack one day, move the next, unpack after.
Do I need to be home the whole time?
Often not. Many providers only need you at the start and the end — ask yours.
Should I clean or tidy first?
No — but clear walkways and set aside anything you’ve already decided isn’t coming.
What should I keep out of the pack?
Medication, chargers, documents, passports, valuables and the coffee maker. Mark a “do not pack” zone.
Breakage, insurance and what’s not packed
What if something breaks?
Ask each provider how damage is handled and what coverage they carry before you book, and ask for a certificate of insurance.
What causes most breakage?
Boxes that aren’t filled, so contents shift; the wrong box for the item; and fragile cartons stacked under heavy ones. See fragile packing.
What about boxes I packed myself?
Movers often limit coverage on owner-packed boxes. Some packing providers will check your fragile boxes if asked.
What won’t packers pack?
Hazardous items — paint, propane, ammunition, pool chemicals. Pianos, safes, gas disconnection and plumbing are specialist jobs.
Unpacking and areas
Can I book unpacking without packing?
Yes. Choose “Unpacking only” on the quote form.
Will unpackers put things away, or just open boxes?
Ask. A full unpack should mean contents placed where you want them, not stacked on counters.
Do they take the empty boxes away?
Often, but not always. Confirm box and paper removal is included.
Can providers handle 55+ community access?
Mention your community on the form. Sun City, Sun City West, Sun City Grand and others have their own procedures.
Which areas can I request quotes in?
The whole West Valley, plus Mesa and Tempe. See service areas.
