What “full packing” should cover
The phrase gets used loosely. Some companies call it full packing when they box the kitchen and the china and leave you the garage. When you compare quotes, check that the scope includes:
- Every interior room — bedrooms, bathrooms, closets, linen cupboards and the hall cupboard nobody has opened in years.
- The whole kitchen — pantry, small appliances and spice rack included.
- The garage and Arizona room. These are rooms, and in the West Valley they’re often the densest in the house.
- Fragile items — china, glass, mirrors, framed art and lamps in dish packs and mirror cartons.
- Labeling and a written inventory, by room and contents.
- Debris removal at the end of the day.
Usually not included: driving the truck, disconnecting gas appliances, piano and safe moving, and hazardous items such as paint, propane, ammunition and pool chemicals.

Where the hours go
People underestimate the kitchen and forget the garage entirely. Two things move the total more than square footage: density (how full the home is) and fragility. A sparse four-bedroom can finish faster than a crowded two-bedroom, and a home with several china services and a glass cabinet adds hours no floor plan predicts. That’s why many providers prefer to walk the house before quoting.
Two-storey homes and full garages typically add time. See packing costs for rough planning ranges.
Full pack or partial pack?
| Full packing often makes sense when… | Partial packing may be enough when… |
|---|---|
| You work full time and the move is within a month | You have several free weekends before the date |
| The home has been lived in for many years | You moved in recently and some boxes were never unpacked |
| There’s a lot of china, glass, art or collections | Fragile items fit in one or two cupboards |
| You’re downsizing and decisions are emotional | You want to sort and purge at your own pace |
| A relocation package requires professional packing | Budget matters more than time |

Questions to ask before you book
- Is the estimate in writing, room by room — and is the garage in it?
- Are materials included in the hourly rate or billed separately?
- Will the same crew stay all day?
- What’s your summer heat plan for candles, electronics, vinyl and medication?
- How are breakages handled, and can I see proof of insurance?
Full packing — questions
Do I need to be home all day?
Usually not. Many providers only need you at the start to walk the plan and at the end to review the inventory — ask yours.
Can I keep things out of the pack?
Yes. Set aside a “do not pack” zone for medication, chargers, documents, passports and the coffee maker.
Can packing and unpacking be booked together?
Often, yes. Many people pack the day before the movers and unpack the day after.
How far ahead should I request quotes?
Five to six weeks for February–May, less in summer. See how it works.
